First day of school 2010!

Who: Alexis and Ethan
What: First Day of School
Where: 4th and 2nd grade classrooms
When: August 30, 2010
Why: Gain knowledge :)

First day of school was today! Must say that it was a bit chaotic. My kiddos decided they wanted to ride the bus (which was great!) except the bus was 20 min. late. Not a big deal except someone at the school (in their brilliance of course) decided that school Open House would be TODAY for ALL KIDS from 8-9 am. Complete chaos as Thane and I tried to beat the bus, got stuck in traffic, and ended up arriving after the kiddos. Good thing for good friends who tell you where your kids are :)

Alas...we were able to get all kids to their appropriate classrooms!! Both reported having a great day and are excited to head off again in the morning.

And (of course) this mother had to do her usual before school snapshots.

Alexis....heading off to the big 4th Grade. She thinks she is pretty cool (and she IS!!)

Big 2nd grade for Ethan!! I heard a rumor that some girls were chasing him at recess today. NOT COOL!

Poor Brylee was a bit confused about all the craziness this morning, and why big brother and sissy were leaving her!! She is going to get some QUALITY mom time....probably more than she bargained for!

Waiting for the bus. Did I mention that we waited...and waited....and waited for the bus?!?!

Apparently you have to have NO TEETH to be able to go to 2nd grade!! Ethan has lost several teeth in the last month.

Alexis and Zoe... note the shoes: Black Converse. Alexis has been dying to have black converse shoes ever since the last school year ended. I think they are just fabulous...

And here they are arriving at the school. I'm not going to lie, it makes me extremely happy that Alexis will let me walk her to class and gave me a big hug goodbye. I dread the school year that she wants me to wait in the car with a bag over my head. I know it will come...but for now I am enjoying her acceptance :) And my sweet Ethan asked if I would stay and go to recess with him!! I think I can probably still play a pretty mean four square.

Fun day but the question that kept running through my head....how many days until Christmas vacation?!?!?

Goodbye summer, goodbye :(

I am seriously, seriously traumatized by the fact that my kids will be heading off to 2nd and 4th grade tomorrow. I have become THAT MOM this summer. I can't imagine what I am going to do all day without their fun little selves around. I'm sure once we get into the "school groove" again it will be fine (and I will probably even come to enjoy the quiet) but for now I am one sad mama. I have been shedding little tears on and off the last few days. They are literally growing up right before my eyes and I am not handling very well! BUT...as all good things do, this summer must come to an end.

I haven't been very good about blogging this month, just mostly enjoying the sun and fun, but thought I could share a few final pics.

Here is Bry with her good friend Molly (Boo!) These girls are cutie patooties. I hope I have many, many more pics of them together as they grow up! They have to be friends forever since their stinky noodle/poop incident!

Check out this beauty of a wound. Our ward had a swim party and all was going well until the last 10 minutes when Ethan decided to go off the diving board at the same time his friend was going off the high dive. Well Ethan decided to pay a little more attention to his friend than the actual board he was on, slipped, fell sideways off, scraped his leg and smacked his head on the board. Thank goodness for Micah being close and I also happened to be watching! The lifeguard you ask? WELL...he was picking his freakin' nose!!

My children were literally obsessed (OBSESSED!) with chickens (yes chickens) this summer. Here they are with their chicken arms. Even Brylee was in on the action..

We even squeezed in one last family camping trip to end the summer. Did a little fishing in the creek and even caught some!!

Hot dogs, S'mores and of course...Thane HAS to make breakfast when we camp!!

Helping Dad with breakfast and goofing off in the trailer...

And finally...playing in the FREEZING cold water right by camp. Brylee was cracking us up because she wanted her feet in but as soon as she would get them in she would want them out and scream "owww, owww!" Funny girl.

Good times. August was very relaxing for us after having a crazy June and July.
Until we meet again Summer!!

Yellowstone

Thane took a motorcycle (yup motorcycle) trip to Yellowstone last week. The kids and I *got* to stay at home so we hit Wahooz, free movies at Edwards, the library, lunch with friends, tons of playdates with various water activies, and the Discovery Center. Where are my pics of all these fabulous activites? Stored away in my memory because Thane had my camera in Yellowstone!! He took 1,523,900 pictures of elk, but he also took some other fun pics that I promised to blog :)
This is Uncle Tom's trail (I think.) Did you know that someone died on this trail? Note to readers: Do NOT read the "Death in Yellowstone" book...EVER.

Elk.

Climbing rocks with Dan. Do they look like brothers or what?!?

The gang...

Cool bridge..

Grizzly Bears...

Watching for critters...

Chief Joseph Hwy was curvy and great ride on their bikes...

Ah...chipmunks. I can't believe that no one told Dan's new bride Nicole the chipmunk up the pants story. If only I had been there. Next time Dan, next time.

Thane looking hottie on his Harley..

I have a feeling this trip might become a tradition. Great time was had by all!

Backyard campout with Dad

Have I ever mentioned what a great dad Thane is? It is - without a doubt - one of the things I love most about him. I often have people comment to me that it is great to watch him with his kids. Anywho....he joined the kids awhile ago for a backyard campout....so fun!! I can remember doing this as a kid and have fond memories of it! They even sneaked out and did a candy run to Mav.

What a great Dad, what a great night....what great fun!!!
